Jawaharlal Nehru University has a high reputation in India as well as worldwide for its academic excellence. There are numerous dhabas and canteens within campus serving local food that pacifies students’ taste buds starving for a break from hostel’ regular menu. There is one place in JNU which serves you food with intellectual touch smoked in politics and fried with research essence.
Mamu’s dhaba in the campus is known for its indigenous style and typical Bihari food. You will be fascinated to know about the shopkeeper and thrilled after tasting his food. The owner of this dhaba is known as ‘Mamu’ amongst students. But his original name is Shehzad Ibrahimi. He has done PhD in Urdu from JNU and got a reputed job in Bihar but denied to do that as he was obsessed to remain in JNU campus. So he came back to JNU and opened a dhaba and started selling Bihari cuisine such as litti chokha, sarso wali machli, long lata etc.
People are really fond of his litti chokha. Litti chokha serves a good dinner for the students especially during winter season sitting around the camp fire. “Mamu” loves his dhaba but has not decided to make it the last destination. He is confident about his skills and has planned to open a big restaurant as soon as he is financially fit.
